Our children’s group “Sokoly” was established in April 2015. Over the years, the young performers have showcased the beauty and variety of Polish traditional costumes, dances, and songs, at the Polish and international festivals in the Bay Area and beyond.
When the pandemic forced us to remain at homes, Sokoly continued their weekly meetings online, learning new songs and dances remotely, via Zoom. As soon as the restriction lessened, Sokoly restarted in-person meetings, but safely, in the open air, doing art projects on the picnic blankets, dancing on the grass, and singing with their masks on.
In June 2022, Sokoly performed in Lafayette at the charity concert in support of orphaned Ukrainian children sheltering in Poland.In September 2022, Sokoly attended the Polish Festival in Roseville, enjoying their annual team-bonding, overnight event.
In November that year, Sokoly organized their own mini festival in Redwood City, a Harvest celebration “Dożynki”. In December ‘22, they participated in a Christmas Carols concert at the Polish Club, in San Francisco. This time, Sokoly members were dressed up as Kolędnicy, Polish carolers.
In March 2023 Sokoly participated in the People to People Foundation’s fundraiser event in Danville, California. Their performance was enthusiastically accepted by the audience, helping raise the funds for the Family Assistance Center in Oswiecim, Poland. Two months later, Sokoly’s kids and teens performed at the Bandshell stage in Golden Gate, San Francisco. Together with the adult group Lowiczanie and children’s group from the Polish School in Walnut Creek, they celebrated the anniversary of the Polish Constitution Day.
Just a week later, parents of Sokoly’s children organized the May Family Picnic “Majówka” in Redwood City. On that unusually hot day, Sokoly’s talented and courageous youngsters presented a full two-hour concert, captivating hearts with spirited dances and lively music. In September, they went to Roseville again, to perform at the Polish Festival and enjoy their annual team-bonding event.
At the end of the month, Sokoly performed at the Mosaic America, an international festival in San Jose, creating cross-cultural connections and fostering love for Polish heritage.
